Frequently Asked Questions

What WellSharp programs are available?

WellSharp Drilling (Introductory, Supervisor, and Engineer/Manager levels), WellSharp Workover & Completions (for workover crews and supervisors), and WellSharp Coiled Tubing (for CT operations). The Workover & Completions program is increasingly required by operators for workover crews, as well control considerations differ from drilling operations.

How does WellSharp differ from the old WellCAP?

WellSharp replaced IADC WellCAP in 2015 with a modernized curriculum incorporating lessons from major well control events including Deepwater Horizon. WellSharp uses standardized computer-based testing for consistency, includes enhanced simulator requirements, and has more rigorous assessment criteria. Old WellCAP certificates are no longer valid for new certifications.

Do I need to renew WellSharp every 2 years?

Yes. Well control certifications have a 2-year validity period, reflecting the critical nature of the skills. Most employers pay for renewal for current employees. Budget for biennial renewal as an ongoing career expense if you are an independent contractor.
