Title: Oil & Gas Project Accountant & Financial Analyst
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting financial oversight of active construction and engineering projects. This role will bridge operations and finance, ensuring accurate cost tracking, margin reporting, billing alignment, and financial visibility across our project portfolio. This is a high-impact role that directly supports executive leadership and project managers in protecting project profitability and maintaining strong financial discipline.
Project Accounting & Cost Control
• Track project costs against approved AFEs, budgets, and change orders
• Monitor job cost coding accuracy across labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment
• Perform monthly WIP analysis and percent-complete revenue calculations
• Identify cost overruns, margin compression, and billing gaps early
• Partner with Project Managers to reconcile field costs and forecast final cost at completion
Financial Analysis & Reporting
• Prepare weekly and monthly project financial summaries
• Develop job-by-job margin analysis and variance reporting
• Support cash flow forecasting by project and client
• Assist in developing financial dashboards for leadership review
• Support annual budgeting and revenue forecasting processes
Billing & Revenue Integrity
• Reconcile billing to contract terms (lump sum, T&M, unit rate)
• Review time & material billings for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure alignment between work performed and invoices issued
• Assist AR tracking and follow-up coordination
Systems & Process Improvement
• Maintain integrity of project data within accounting and project management systems
• Improve job cost reporting workflows
• Assist in developing standardized project financial reporting templates
• Support integration between accounting (e.g., Jonas), ERP, and project management tools
Executive Support
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis for executive team
• Assist with lender reporting and financial statement preparation
• Support internal partner reporting and distribution calculations
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours and work may change in accordance with business needs. Exempt employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require.
Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in construction or oil & gas project accounting
• Job cost accounting
• Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
• AFE tracking
• Revenue recognition (percent complete and T&M)
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, financial modeling, and forecasting
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to collaborate across teams
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
• Experience in oil & gas midstream or upstream construction/operations
• Familiarity with Jonas Construction Software (or similar ERPs)
• Experience working with project managers and field teams
• CPA or CMA (not required but valued)
