Oil & Gas Title Landman
Location: West Texas (Candidate must currently reside in West Texas)
Position Type: Contract / Full-Time (depending on project)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Oil & Gas Title Landman with experience in West Texas to support ongoing title and mineral ownership projects. The ideal candidate will have experience researching county courthouse records, preparing title reports, and analyzing mineral ownership in Texas, with a strong understanding of the unique title and operational considerations specific to West Texas basins.
Candidates must currently reside in West Texas and have demonstrated experience performing oil and gas title work in the region.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct oil and gas title research in county courthouse records and online databases.
• Build and analyze chains of title to determine mineral ownership.
• Review and interpret deeds, leases, assignments, probate records, and other title documents.
• Prepare run sheets, mineral ownership reports, and title summaries.
• Identify title defects, gaps, or inconsistencies and document findings.
• Support project managers and clients with accurate title information for drilling and development activities.
• Work with team members to resolve curative and ownership issues.
• Maintain organized documentation and clear reporting of title findings.
Required Qualifications
• Must reside in West Texas.
• 2+ years of Oil & Gas Title Landman experience.
• Proven experience researching Texas mineral title in county courthouses.
• Strong understanding of:
• Mineral ownership
• Oil & gas leases
• Assignments
• Probate records
• Title chain construction
• Ability to interpret legal land descriptions and tract ownership.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in Permian Basin counties.
• Familiarity with Texas Railroad Commission records.
• Experience preparing division of interest or ownership reports.
• Knowledge of HBP title analysis.
• Experience working with digital courthouse records systems and title databases.
