Mechanical / CAD Drafter – Downhole Oilfield Tools
$26–$33/hr | 1–3 yrs experience | On-site, full-time | North Houston, TX
Lofton Staffing is hiring a Mechanical / CAD Drafter to join our client company in North Houston. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting the design and production of downhole oilfield tools. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of CAD drafting experience, preferably in the oil & gas industry, and is proficient in SolidWorks; experience with EPDM or SAP is a plus. An Associate’s degree or equivalent from a technical or community college is preferred but can be substituted with equivalent experience.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and draft layouts, master drawings, and assemblies for tool components and mechanical systems from specifications, sketches, prototypes, models, or verbal instructions.
• Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, exploded views, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for production and service operations.
• Support engineering corrections and revisions, ensuring drawings are accurate and complete before dispatch through approval processes.
• Collaborate with engineers, shop technicians, and production teams to clarify design intent and resolve technical issues.
• Maintain organized CAD libraries, templates, and filing of engineering drawings and products.
• Perform other duties as assigned and maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
Qualifications / Requirements:
• 1–3 years of CAD drafting experience in mechanical, manufacturing, or oilfield equipment preferred.
• Strongly prefer experience in the oil & gas industry, specifically downhole tools.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; EPDM or SAP experience a plus.
• Knowledge of GD&T, assembly drawings, and manufacturing standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and other technical documents.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work on-site, full-time.
Compensation & Schedule:
• $26–$33 per hour, depending on experience
• Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• On-site, full-time
