A very large US power generation company needs a Jr Power/Natural Gas Risk Analyst to support their Houston trade floor.

Job Responsibilities
Support senior staff to develop/maintain risk models and reports that accurately capture material risks specific to market/asset/region and trading strategy.
• Produce and analyze daily P&L, conduct portfolio valuation, and perform detailed position analysis to assess risk exposures, sensitivities, and performance attribution
• Adherence to risk management policies with focus on maintaining effective controls for trading and business processes.
• Support of compliance and audit activities.
• Interact with traders, originators, accounting staff, and management to understand and answer questions about portfolio positions, changes, and risk factors.
• Collaborate with I.T. organization to improve the underlying risk system infrastructure (models, calculations, data flows, reports, etc.).
Job Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in a discipline such as business, engineering, or other quantitative discipline with 1-3 years of industry experience, preferably with power/natural gas.
• Experience within a power generation entity is preferred.
• Possess a basic understanding of power generation fundamentals, wholesale electricity market structures, and physical and financial power trading mechanisms.
• Knowledge base should cover a significant subset of the following topics:
• Model-building skills; experienced with analytical and data manipulation applications such as Excel, SQL, Visual Basic, Python, and other programming languages preferred.
• Analytical and quantitative skills (preferably with coursework in risk management and option pricing)
• Ability to analyze large volumes of data and present results in a clear, concise written and oral form
• High sense of responsibility and ability to work autonomously; able to excel under the pressure of multiple deadlines.
• Ability to automate routine tasks to create efficiencies in daily processes.
• Naturally curious team player who is used to diving into issues, brainstorming solutions, and learning new methods and tools to address; results oriented.
• Willingness to be in office daily, working extended hours when necessary
