Job Description

The Facilities Instrument, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Engineer supports the reliability, maintenance, and performance of instrumentation, electrical equipment, and control systems used in oil and gas production facilities. This role evaluates engineering work, supports maintenance strategies, and ensures systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

The position works closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to instrumentation, automation, and electrical infrastructure. Strong communication, technical problem-solving, and collaboration skills are essential.

This role may include both office and field-based activities supporting operating facilities and capital projects.

ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Technical Oversight
• Review and evaluate engineering and technical work performed internally and by contractors to ensure compliance with design standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the development and execution of engineering and design routines aligned with operational goals.
• Ensure clear and timely communication between project teams, engineering groups, and operational personnel.

Maintenance Strategy & Reliability
• Analyze maintenance records to determine failure rates, reliability trends, and root causes of equipment issues.
• Develop equipment strategies and maintenance plans for instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
• Identify and address recurring equipment failures or performance issues.
• Validate maintenance programs through field visits and technical evaluations.

Process Control & Data Analysis
• Develop and implement process control monitoring and surveillance programs.
• Collect, analyze, and trend operational data using process historian systems and visualization tools.
• Perform control system reviews, including loop tuning and logic updates, to improve process stability and efficiency.
• Support optimization initiatives through data-driven analysis.

Equipment & Systems Support
• Specify and select instrumentation, electrical components, and control systems for facility applications.
• Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Assist with upgrades, retrofits, and improvements to control systems and electrical infrastructure.
• Provide engineering support during facility shutdowns and maintenance events.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure systems and engineering practices comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in hazard analyses, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for facility modifications.
• Promote safe work practices and operational integrity across facilities.

Project & Operational Support
• Support brownfield and greenfield facility projects related to instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
• Contribute to development of engineering deliverables such as diagrams, control narratives, and equipment documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to execute improvement projects and operational initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Technical Knowledge
• Strong understanding of instrumentation, electrical systems, and process control within industrial or energy environments.
• Experience working with:
• Pressure, temperature, level, and flow instrumentation
• Control valves and shutdown systems
• Fire and gas detection systems
• PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems including motors, motor controls, transformers, and variable frequency drives.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings such as P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and electrical one-line diagrams.

Engineering & Industry Standards
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ISA, National Electrical Code (NEC), and other applicable safety and engineering guidelines.
• Understanding of safety systems, hazardous area equipment, and reliability practices.

Data & Software Skills
• Experience analyzing operational data using databases, spreadsheets, and visualization tools.
• Working knowledge of maintenance or enterprise systems such as SAP or similar platforms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Professional Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and operational teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in fast-paced environments.
• Experience coordinating with contractors and cross-functional engineering teams.

Additional Preferred Experience
• Maintenance planning or reliability engineering experience.
• Project management or project engineering exposure.
• Experience supporting upstream oil and gas production facilities.

Job Details

Pay: $91/per hour

Location: Midland, TX
